Lalum and Tony PierceMelissa Lalum was named today as the new managing editor of the Daily News. A nice round of applause greeted her introduction in the newsroom, I'm told. Lalum has been the paper's executive news editor. Here she is pictured with Tony Pierce, the Busblog blogger, at a recent reunion of the Daily Nexus, the student newspaper at UC Santa Barbara. Lalum replaces Ron Kaye, who ascended to editor in charge of the whole shebang back on August 9. The DN website's staff roster still lags a bit behind. Photo is from Marc Brown's Los Angeles-based blogblogblog.com.

* In Wednesday's paper: Kaye calls Lalum, 34, "a remarkably talented journalist with a great eye for news and the design skills to present it in an eye-catching manner."
