Mahony must give up files

The U.S. Supreme Court this morning refused to hear Cardinal Roger M. Mahony's request to keep archdiocese personnel files confidential, so he must give prosecutors the files of priests Michael Baker and George Miller. Mahony has been claiming constitutional protection in refusing to release personnel files in the priest molestation cases. The LAT website says the ruling "likely opens the door to the release of hundreds of confidential Catholic church files sought by more than 500 people who say they were molested by priests with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles."
