Time to catch up on some media moves. Already told you this week about the demise of the Los Angeles Alternative, Harold Meyerson leaving the LA Weekly, and Tony Castro and George Foulsham joining the Daily News. Some more moves and end-of-the-week notes:

  • Dean Singleton's empire is about to out-innovate the L.A. Times again. (See ValleyNews.com.) The San Gabriel Valley Newspaper Group — that's Pasadena, Whittier and the San Gabriel Valley Tribune — will launch a joint morning news webcast out of the Tribune's newsroom on Monday at 9 am. They're thinking of a 4 pm news show and a prep sports webcast in the near future.
  • Speaking of San Gabriel, Alison Hewitt has left the Copley News bureau in the county Hall of Administration for the SGV Tribune.
  • New York-based staff writer Brendan Bernhard is leaving the LA Weekly, ahead of whatever changes the New Times folks have in mind.
  • Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts fame has joined Variety as an editor in features. He had worked previously at LACMA and the Daily News and writes an online column for Sports Illustrated.
  • The Orange County Register is the latest newspaper to offer buyouts in hopes that the expensive staffers will leave. (Romenesko)
  • Former LAT morning editor Martha Flores moves to US Weekly, where West Coast editor Ken Baker is feeling pretty good these days. (Fishbowl L.A)
  • The company that was building (and I use the term loosely) the ill-fated Baghdad Police College was none other than Pasadena-based Parsons Corp. (Star-News)
  • The city of West Hollywood put off a hearing on the future of Pinkberry, the traffic-causing yogurt shop. (WeHoNews.com)
  • Mayor Villaraigosa's chosen venues for Yom Kippur services this year are Temple Ramat Zion in Northridge and Temple of the Arts in Beverly Hills.
  • I'm supposed to make a brief appearance on KPCC's "Off-Ramp" with John Rabe Saturday at noon during a segment on the TV and radio ratings.
