Super sports editor *

The Los Angeles Newspaper Group has posted an opening for an executive sports editor to oversee the sports coverage at all nine papers in Southern California. The papers already share coverage and columnists, but for the first time there will be a single editor overseeing all the sports content at the Daily News, Daily Breeze, Long Beach Press Telegram, Pasadena Star News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Whittier Daily News, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, San Bernardino Sun and Redlands Daily Facts.

This is a job for an experienced sports editor who knows how to manage a large staff and operate in a competitive market with multiple pro, college and prep teams. The ideal candidate must also have extensive experience with budgets, including freelance and travel.

Please e-mail a cover letter detailing how you would take our print and online products to the next level while still keeping each paper's distinct local flavor.

Daily News managing editor Melissa Lalum is handling the hunt.

* Another Singleton opportunity?: The owner of the Ventura County Star might want out of the newspaper business, and the staff was reportedly just briefed that change may be coming.
