Memo out of the Daily News building in Woodland Hills:

We're pleased to announce that Jason Middleton is joining LA.Com as Editor. Jason came to the Daily News in January and has worked on the design desk. He relocated to L.A. from the Houston Chronicle and is the perfect person to head this up.

Lonny Pugh, who has been Editor of LA.com and here since the October 2003 launch, has elected to take a different role as Contributing Editor. We'e very happy that Lonny will remain a vital part of the organization. In this new role, he'll remain involved with the dining category as well as other editing responsibilities.

Jason's appointment marks an important step in bringing the newspaper and interactive into a single operation and LA.COM is one of the best opportunities for us to reinvent journalism.
