Taking home an M.F.K. award

KatzJesse Katz of Los Angeles magazine won the M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award at yesterday's James Beard Foundation soiree. Katz won for "Wheels of Fortune," his piece last October on taco trucks, and was singled out over finalists David Halberstam and Monique Truong, who both wrote their pieces for Gourmet. Southern California restaurants and chefs were shut out this year, but ex-Angeleno Michel Richard, now listed with Washington D.C.'s Citronelle, won the outstanding chef award. Full list
