Payday for Laurel Touby

ToubyThe onetime maven of media mixers sold mediabistro.com today for $23 million. The buyer is Internet research firm Jupitermedia, which wants the company for the revenue from jobs ads and courses. The company founded by Touby (and boosted later by investors) also publishes the websites FishbowlNY (and FBLA and FBDC), TVNewser, Galleycat, Unbeige and others. Touby is to remain as a senior vice president, the New York Times story says.

“This company is a true Internet success story,” Ms. Touby said. “This started as an offline community, a cocktail party, that turned into this Web site that actually makes money.”

The kids at Gawker are going to go crazy tomorrow.
