It's a national contest, right?

The Association of Food Journalists (AFJ) announces 42 winners in its Awards Competition 2007. They received their awards at a reception and banquet held on Aug. 25, 2007, in conjunction with AFJ’s annual conference here.

Not a single SoCal winner. Maybe they didn't enter?
