Ramirez wins again

Bringing home a Pulitzer Prize to Los Angeles isn't the only praise Investor's Business Daily cartoonist Michael Ramirez gets to bask in this month. He also just picked up a Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism. (That's today's cartoon above.) Another former LAT staffer, James Risen of the New York Times, also won for Washington correspondence. Robyn Dixon, who is still at the LAT, won for reporting from Zimbabwe. Colleague Rob Gauthier won for his photo spread on the Anaheim Ducks enjoying their days at home with the Stanley Cup, and the Times staff won for informational graphics on last year's wildfires.

Also: The Daily Journal's Anat Rubin is a finalist for the Harry Chapin Media Awards (for coverage of hunger and poverty-related issues) for her stories about Skid Row. Toni Guinyard of the late KCET show "Life & Times" is also up for a piece called "Empty Lots, Empty Promises."
