RealTalkLA lives on, in a way. (I can't get the website to work.) Craiglist has an ad for LA Reporting and Writing Interns Sought that reads:

RealTALKLA.com, founded by Jay Levin, founder of the LA Weekly, is seeking in conjunction with Los Angeles.com LA-based reporting and writing interns to cover news, community and the arts throughout LA. You set your own hours. No pay but an excellent opportunity to learn and to get posted on the web. To apply write to editor@realtalkla.com. Indicate your areas of interest and, if possible, provide a couple of writing samples.

Also: "LA Weekly has an immediate opening for a web editor." craigslist And LA Weekly wants freelancers for a new food blog.
