Evacuations above Chatsworth *

* Updated post

Twin Lakes and Indian Hills, two communities hard up against the brush north of Chatsworth, are evacuating. Flames are moving across Browns Canyon, the access up to Oat Mountain from the San Fernando Valley, and toward homes with spot fires erupting all over the place. A Daily News photographer just said on Channel 9 that the fire is approaching the 118 Freeway at DeSoto Ave. The station also advised residents down range in Agoura Hills and Calabasas to be alert; left unsaid is that this whole thing could get away and race across the Simi Hills to encircle the west end of the Valley. Plenty of fires that began in the Santa Susanas in the past have raced toward the ocean.

Updates:
Chaos on the 118: Traffic stopped on the westbound freeway is turning around, driving east and trying to exit at what looks on Channel 2 to be the DeSoto ramp as flames swirl around the freeway. "Porter Ranch is in big trouble," Channel 2's copter pilot Larry Welk just said. At least one car has been reported on fire.
