"My strengths lay in writing longer pieces," Steven Mikulan says in a Neon Tommy story about his departure from the LA Weekly, where he was the main writer on the paper's news blog. He can't say much about his exit, citing a severance agreement, but the story says Mikulan was told last November he would only write online. His past experience at the Weekly had been as theater critic and coverer of high-profile trials. "This is all part of a long, downward spiral for the Weekly," says Robert Iafolla, a staff writer at the Los Angeles Daily Journal. "Steve blogging was like using a Ferrari to deliver pizza."

Also at Neon Tommy: Blogger and UCLA professor Mark Kleiman talks about his new book, "When Brute Force Fails: How to Have Less Crime and Less Punishment."
