'East of West LA' getting discovered

citynightmccollister.jpgbrysonandroyalaptsmccollister.jpgNice to see Kevin McCollister's first book of Los Angeles photographs (discussed at LAO in November) bringing him more mainstream media acclaim. His street photography and the book, "East of West L.A.," were finally discovered on Sunday by the L.A. Times. "Kevin was seeing the city with fresh eyes but with a dark sensibility," says his publisher, Brooks Roddan, in the story. McCollister's photos of things he sees while walking the streets have become familiar through the years to LA Observed readers, who know him as the blogger at East of West LA, formerly called the Jimson Weed Gazette.

East of West LA is on our inaugural list of 30 Essential L.A. Blogs, a menu of suggested reading and viewing that will refresh periodically. It's housed on the new Blog page, where you can find links to hundreds of L.A.-based blogs and websites.
