Rain triggers slides and flow in foothills

The heavier-than-expected rain that fell overnight has challenged debris basins and runoff channels across the front of the San Gabriels, especially in drainages where the Station Fire burned. At least 41 homes were damaged on Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge, below the Mullaly catch basin. Officials ordered the evacuation of 500 homes below the mountains in La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta and Acton, and in some higher Sierra Madre neighborhoods. The National Weather Service says more rain is coming in this afternoon and warns, "Any additional rainfall will result in continued mud and debris flow activity at least through the mid-afternoon hours."
