Downtown

One more interpretation of Angels Flight *

I've been receiving quite nice comments all day for posting yesterday's item about the Millard Sheets painting called Angel's Flight. angels-flight-sheets-crop120.jpgIn one of the emails, Ophelia Chong tipped me to this illustration from Black Clock #10, which shares with Sheets a certain vibe and the Bunker Hill setting — click and look closely, you can see Angels Flight angling past in the background. The illustration by Jeff Bridges is on the cover of the CalArts literary journal's issue devoted to film noir. LA Observed contributor Denise Hamilton, who was the editor of the bestselling Los Angeles Noir, contributed a piece to the issue.

Add Black Clock: Jenny Burman of Chicken Corner has a piece in Black Clock #11, the current issue.

Add Angels Flight: The historic funicular resumed service today after nine years.

* Add Millard Sheets: Christopher Knight reviews "Millard Sheets: The Early Years 1926-1944" at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
