Film critic Roger Ebert tweets about today's big media news that Variety will stop running staff-written movie and theater reviews and lay off chief critics Todd McCarthy and David Rooney:

Variety fires Todd McCarthy & I cancel my subscription. He was my reason 2 read the paper. RIP, schmucks

Ebert, by the way, received a nice and kind of emotional standing ovation Friday night at the Independent Spirit Awards on top of the parking garage at L.A. Live. Video
