Kings clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs

For the first time since 2002, the Los Angeles Kings will play in the post-season. (They backed in when the Calgary Flames lost today.) Their first-round partner is still to be decided, but just to give a flavor of what it means to Kings fans, here's a short clip of the moment when the Kings last won a playoff series: eliminating the Red Wings on a sudden-death overtime goal by Adam Deadmarsh in 2001. Kings announcer Bob Miller kind of loses it, but I understand the emotion since I was a couple of rows behind the goalie when the puck went in.

It was an intense game — here's a longer highlight reel.

Adam Deadmarsh: A former U.S. Olympian, he only played two more seasons and was just 27 when forced to retire due to concussions.
