NYT expands into Phoenix

With the Arizona theater of media operations heating up, the New York Times is opening its "first new national bureau in decades" in Phoenix. The inaugural bureau chief will be Marc Lacey, currently based in Mexico City. Romenesko has the memo. Lacey, one of the NYT's many refugees from the Los Angeles Times, will roam the entire Southwest region. The memo calls him "perfectly positioned to work closely with...his incoming counterpart in Los Angeles, Adam Nagourney." Both Lacey and Nagourney arrive this summer.

Also at NYT: Stephanie Clifford tweeted today that she will be moving from the media/advertising/media beat to cover retail in June. Her replacement has not yet been announced.
