John Olguin, San Pedro leader was 89

"It's hard to imagine San Pedro without John Olguin," says City Councilwoman Janice Hahn. "He was like a grandfather to everyone." Olguin died on Saturday, according to the Daily Breeze, "hours before the annual Cabrillo Beach Polar Bears Club New Year's Day Swim that he helped organize." Olguin was director emeritus of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, which he helped to found. He also established the Point Fermin Marine Life Refuge and was active in many San Pedro community affairs.
