New twist for NFL stadium: the county may get a say

stadium-first-look-gensler.jpgThe county Board of Supervisors might just have some surprise jurisdiction over AEG's plan for a football stadium next to Staples Center, reporter Rich Connell says in the L.A. Times. That's because the county is a party to the Convention Center, which occupies some of the public land that AEG wants. But apparently no one noticed until Connell began asking questions. It's a potential new complication for the company, which already has City Hall greased up to support the stadium. AEG may have to make nice over at the county Hall of Administration for awhile — free tickets, anyone? — and make peace with whatever demands for tribute the Supervisors come up with, but I doubt it's a serious threat. From the LAT:

"We're not asking anything out of the county because we don't want to deal with them," AEG President Tim Leiweke told The Times earlier this year during a discussion of the stadium and $350 million in proposed city borrowing for related Convention Center work.

An AEG spokesman said last week, "We don't anticipate the involvement of the county or the Board of Supervisors."
