Evacuation map of NYC: Irene is a big deal

nyc-hurricane-map-man.jpgNew York City has posted a map showing the areas that should expect to be inundated by the Atlantic storm surge from a hurricane of various intensities making landfall there. Hurricane Irene is expected to arrive this weekend. Flooding from rainfall is separate.

The city of New York has issued a mandatory evacuation order for New Yorkers who live in the low-lying Zone “A” coastal areas in all five boroughs. "People should be out of these areas by 5PM on Saturday," says the city's Severe Weather page.

If you think the predicted inundation in Manhattan is sobering, wait until you see Brooklyn (after the jump.)
