Stan Lee cancels on Times' film festival

hero-complex-poster.jpgStan Lee was supposed to be the center of attention on the final day of the Hero Complex Film Festival this weekend. But his people say the 89-year-old comic book icon is clearing his schedule. Geoff Boucher, the Times staff writer who made the paper's Hero Complex blog popular enough to spin off a festival, reports he was told by a staffer at Lee's POW Entertainment that "Lee is distraught and depressed about the recent death of business associate Arthur Lieberman."

While Lieberman died on May 1, [Yuka] Kobayashi said the collective fatigue of multiple appearances tied to “The Avengers” release have made it necessary for Lee to clear his upcoming schedule. Lee will be appearing Saturday at the Dallas Comic-Con but will cut the trip short and will not be at the Texas event on Sunday as previously announced.

With Lee dropping out, Boucher says the final date of the festival at downtown's Regal Cinemas has been cancelled. The festival will end Sunday night. "This has been a rough day," Boucher posted on Facebook.
