LA Times loses sports writer to Boston

The Clippers on Thursday won their 15th straight game and improved on their NBA-best record by beating the Boston Celtics at Staples Center. Boston won't leave LA empty-handed, however. LAT sports writer Baxter Holmes is moving to the Celtics beat for the Boston Globe. The memo to the Times' sports staff is from sports editor Mike James. Holmes has been covering UCLA basketball.

Hey Everyone,

Baxter Holmes, who has been with us for 3½ years, has taken a position with the Boston Globe to help cover the Boston Celtics. Baxter has done a variety of things for us in his tenure with The Times and covered virtually everything – preps, colleges, pros, action sports and much more – showing great versatility along the way. We certainly wish him well in this new adventure, hope that the new position turns out very well for him and also hope that he still has some of his winter clothing from his Oklahoma days. Baxter's final day with us will be Jan. 12.
