Sentinel solicits donations for managing editor's care

yussuf-simmonds-thumb.jpgThe Los Angeles Sentinel ran a story on January 11 noting that managing editor Yussuf J. Simmonds was recuperating from a stroke suffered in December while he was in Washington, D.C. Executive publisher Danny Bakewell said that Simmonds "was comforted to hear about the numerous calls from our readers asking about him, wishing him well and praying for his complete recovery." But he is facing a lengthy rehabilitation and extended medical leave.

Also from the story:

People who want to support Simmond’s convalescence can send contributions to the Los Angeles Sentinel, 3800 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008.

Checks and money orders should be sent in the name of Yussuf J. Simmonds (Joseph Simmonds), in care of Los Angeles Sentinel/L.A. Watts Times. Please address to Yussuf Simmonds and mark correspondence personal and confidential.

The paper has named Brandon I. Brooks as acting managing editor.
