Video shows Dorner buying scuba gear in Torrance

dorner-scuba-tmz.jpgThe video is from the Sports Chalet in Torrance on Feb .1, two days before the first two of the murders that authorities attribute to rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner. It shows a man who is apparently Dorner getting two scuba tanks re-filled with air and purchasing a third tank. The surveillance video was posted today by TMZ:

The video then shows Dorner leaving the scuba section with the 2 yellow tanks, along with another large, black scuba tank. Dorner then goes to the counter, and then has a friendly conversation with the cashier, at times laughing.

Dorner -- who was a member of a Naval undersea warfare unit -- pays cash for the items and then leaves.

The surveillance tape shows Dorner arriving at Sports Chalet at 9:21 PM and leaving at 9:38 PM, just as the store closed.

The bodies of the first 2 victims were found at 9 PM on February 3rd -- 48 hours after Dorner's trip to Sports Chalet.

On Feb. 6 police believe that Dorner tried to steal a boat in San Diego but was thwarted. It was the next day that his truck was found abandoned and burning in the forest near Big Bear.

Meanwhile, on Monday Riverside County authorities charged Dorner with murder of a police officer, which carries the death penalty.
