Forget about the L.A. 49ers

Santa Clara appears to be the new site for the SF 49ers, which broke off negotiations with San Francisco city officials concerning a new ballpark at Candlestick Point. A news conference this morning will make it official. And what if the team can't come to terms with Santa Clara? Team owner John York said he would look elsewhere in the Bay Area - and only the Bay Area. "We are a part of the fabric of this region, and we intend to stay right here where we belong,'' York told the San Jose Mercury News. And the team will still be called the San Francisco 49ers.
