His ultra-violent "Apocalypto" found enough takers over the weekend to top the box office charts. The R-rated story set in the last days of the Mayan empire grossed $14.2 million - with men making up about 60 percent of the audience. If you're not a Mel Gibson fan, take solace in the fact that the numbers from "Apocalypto" paled next to his "The Passion of the Christ," which scored $84 million in its opening weekend. Even so, execs at Disney, which distributed the movie, had to be pleased. It just goes to show that in Hollywood, personal foibles don't necessarily result in career setbacks, especially if you're Mel Gibson.
