Socal's affluent residents - we're talking annual income of more than $200,000 - give away twice as much of their wealth as those in other parts of California, according to a study by NewTithing Group. Silicon Valley is still tops when looking at the average size gift. But a few large donations skewed the average. Socal gives more when measured by median share of liquid assets. Tim Stone, director of NewTithing Group, told the LAT that one explanation could the higher proportion of older, wealthier people in L.A. than Silicon Valley.
