Prototypes of Condé Nast's much-hyped and long-awaited business glossy, Portfolio, are making the rounds in NY, which is kind of noteworthy, but the bigger buzz is how the magazine plans to have a major Web presence (quite a contrast to other Condé Nast pubs). "Print writers are definitely writing for the Web," a source told the NY Observer. "Portfolio is a magazine being born in the 21st century," said former NYT star Kurt Eichenwald, who has taken a senior writer post at the magazine. "Any magazine coming out now cannot look at the Web as just something to put an article on; it has to be viewed as part of the whole." As is typical in such a high-profile venture, not everything is hunky-dory. Laurie Cohen, a senior writer who was recruited from the WSJ, is heading back to her old job. The inaugural issue is scheduled to hit newsstands on April 24.
