U.S. airlines will be able to operate 23 daily roundtrip flights between the United States and China by 2012, up from the current 10. The agreement, announced during those high-level talks between the United States and China, also will allow the U.S. to designate three more carriers to fly to China. Some of those new flights might originate out of LAX, although U.S. carriers have shown a preference for opening up routes elsewhere in the country. American, for example, bid unsuccessfully last year for a Dallas-Beijing route. Right now, LAX offers pretty frequent service: four daily flights from L.A. to Beijing - and another two that operate five days a week. On the L.A. to Shanghai route, there are four daily flights.
