'King's Speech' most profitable best picture nominee

The film cost about $15 million to make and so far has earned $201 million, a stunning return on investment for The Weinstein Co. Forbes blogger Dorothy Pomerantz has the numbers for other best picture nominees. It's not quite as good as it looks because the production costs do not include marketing and distribution expenses, which can easily be double overall costs (especially when the film is a strong Oscar contender). Still, not too shabby a return. Also doing well:

BLACK SWAN
Box Office: $172 million
Budget: $13 million

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT
Box Office: $29 million
Budget: $4 million

THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Box Office: $221 million
Budget: $40 million

TOY STORY 3
Box Office: $1 billion
Budget: $200 million

By the way, online trading site Intrade has "The King's Speech" with an 82 percent chance of winning best picture. It overtook "The Social Network" several weeks ago.
