405 closure is not a problem, it's an opportunity

LA Inc., the city's convention and visitors bureau, will be launching a Twitter campaign on 405 different things to do without a car during the weekend closure beginning July 16. What the folks over there really mean is what you can without having to take the 405. Here are the first five tweets:

1/ #405things: Go @metrolosangeles 2 Hollywood/Western & walk north 2 Fern Dell 4 hiking & lunch at The Trails. http://bit.ly/405things

2/ #405things: Want some Seoul? @Koreatown awaits. Go @metrolosangeles 2 Wilshire/Normandie and explore http://ht.ly/5xRCd

3/ #405things: Which celeb has the same size hands & feet as u? Go @metrolosangeles 2 @HandHCenter & find out at Grauman's Chinese Theatre

4/ #405things: Go @metrolosangeles 2 @HandHCenter 4 shopping & see ur fav celebs @TussaudsLA (25% OFF http://ht.ly/5xRt5)

5/ #405things: Hungry? 30 food stalls @grandcenmrkt in #dtla. Go @metrolosangeles 2 Pershing Square & walk north

Not sure we need to be reminded of such well-known offerings, but it illustrates the strategies being devised by business and government to somehow take advantage of next week's closure. The buildup has been hyperbolic and a bit silly, no question, although it has caused the city to come together - and with the exception of sports, that's a rarity for L.A. So in that sense, this might actually turn out to be a good thing.
