Not a great weekend to open a movie

AMC is shutting its theaters in Washington, Baltimore, and Norfolk, Va. due to the hurricane, and locations in NY, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts might be added to the list before the weekend is out. The other big chains have yet to decide what to do. This is not usually a big box office weekend, but it's still summer and shuttering so many theaters is certain to impact movie grosses nationwide. Also, Broadway will be dark on Saturday and Sunday, which means a huge loss in ticket sales during what would normally be a busy summer weekend. The last time this happened was after 9/11. And lots of concerts are being canceled. (The Wrap)
