*Villaraigosa shills for Obama, tries to make a name for himself

L.A.'s mayor was all over Washington today - and he's making sure L.A. knows about it, with press conferences, emails, and tweets up the wazoo. He was mostly talking up the president's dead-on-arrival plan for job creation, pretending that he had something to say about the economy, but sounding so completely, well, inconsequential. Never mind that his D.C. photo ops were silly and his motivations highly suspect - what's more distressing is that our empty suit of a mayor manages to get away with the nonsense. Earlier today, he even released a statement on the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," another big L.A. issue ("Today is a critical milestone for both equal rights and our national security..."). The guy should be embarrassed, but that's just the point. His ego knows no bounds.

*At least House Speaker John Boehner knew enough to turn down Villaraigosa. (LAT)
