2012 looks solid for auto biz

J.D. Power is forecasting an 8.7 percent increase in sales, to 13.8 million units from an estimated 12.7 million in 2011. That would still be below the 16-17 million pre-recession peak, but much improved from 2009, the depths of the downturn, when only 10.4 million vehicles were sold.
