Skid Row job center gets some help from downtown businesses

Nice to see that Chrysalis, which has been doing great work on Skid Row for many years, will be receiving $200,000 from a group of downtown businesses. The group includes Anschutz Entertainment Group, Bank of America, Downtown L.A. Motors, JPMorgan Chase, King's Seafood Company, Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel, and U.S. Bank. (Couldn't these guys have done better than 200 grand?) Carol Schatz and the Central City Association coordinated the funding. The whole point of Chrysalis is to offer a chance for the down-and-out, both through work programs and job training. The money will be used to expand one-day courses into more intensive classes that last several days. From the LAT:

Becky Dennison, of the L.A. Community Action Network, welcomed the support but said that more should be done by those who profit in the area. "The business community, the CCA in particular, have been generating a lot of profits in downtown L.A. for a long time," she said. "They're obligated to be giving these donations and should be providing even more support for permanent housing and crucial services."
