Keep those tax checks coming in... please!

April, of course, is a very big month for collecting income taxes - and it's especially big for a deficit-ravaged California. Last year, personal income taxes accounted for 54 percent of all general fund revenues. Of that amount, 14.1 percent arrived in April. Through the first 19 days of the month, it's not looking great, according to the state controller's tally. To date, $5.28 billion has been received; the governor's budget estimate is looking for $9.13 billion. The year-to-date numbers are better - $38.9 billion in personal income taxes have been collected, up from $37.9 billion for the same period a year earlier. Anyway, you can track the daily receipts here. As you can see, the day after tax day brought in the most money. Below are the numbers so far this month:

April 1 --- ---

April 2 (46,741)**

April 3 146,692

April 4 372,429

April 5 23,870

April 6 427,484

April 7 --- ---

April 8 --- ---

April 9 18,790

April 10 137,722

April 11 193,370

April 12 10,818

April 13 233,299

April 14 --- ---

April 15 --- ---

April 16 427,656

April 17 729,465

April 18 1,634,853

April 19 979,462

*The table above shows the most recent personal income tax revenues, which include payroll withholdings, taxes received and refunds paid out. The reconciliation of these numbers can take up to two days.

**A negative figure indicates that the daily refund total outpaced daily receipts and withholdings.Monthly Total 5,289,169
