At least they had plenty to eat

On the gala night Disney Hall opened, Mayor Jim Hahn tried to hold a gathering of city and state officials and their aides at Getty House -- that would be the official mayor's residence in Windsor Square. Big mistake, says Rick Orlov in his Daily News column.

"A lot of people chose the Disney event over meeting with the city family," said one participant. "The problem the mayor had is it just became too late to change the date of his event, even though everyone there would have rather been someplace else."

One more item on Disney Hall: An article by film producer Tom Teicholz in the Jewish Journal examines Frank Gehry's friendship with developer Larry Field and says it has shaped L.A.
