The Tuesday New York Times does indeed correct Sharon Waxman's Oscar story from Monday, both the error Hollywood was gabbing about and a couple of other errant facts.

An article yesterday about the Academy Awards referred incorrectly in some copies to the nationality of Peter Jackson, who was named best director for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." He is from New Zealand, not Australia. The article also misstated the number of times a nomination has gone to Sean Penn, who won the Oscar this year as best actor. It is four, not three.

The article also misidentified the man who was kissed by Renée Zellweger after she won the Oscar for best supporting actress, in "Cold Mountain." He was John Carrabino, her manager, not Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of Miramax, which made the film.

For what it's worth (i.e., nothing), watching at home we all wondered if it was Weinstein. But then, we're not expected to know anything about these people.
