WGA sets new vote
In a settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor, the Writers Guild has set an election for president a year early on September 20. The feds will oversee the balloting and vote count, the WGA release says. It's more fallout from the disputed election of Victoria Riskin, who later resigned after being deemed ineligible. If you want to see some desperate spin control, compare the p.r. release put out by the Writers Guild with the Variety story (now on yahoo news) that was filed at 10 pm, weds., 3/24.
Nobody is buying the fantasy that the present leadership of the WGA "asked" the Dept. of Labor to drop on by and supervise another election. It's simply a total lie that the people who run the Writers Guild suggested to the DOL that another election would be a great idea.
The three presidents that have been run through the guild in the past two and a half months have defied the Dept. of Labor at every turn. A new presidential election should have been ordered the day, Jan. 6, that president-elect Vicki Riskin was tossed out.
That a labor union ran a rigged election is a dog bites man story. But like Charles Holland who was caught by the LA Times and tried to lie his way out of it, the WGAw has been caught by the Dept. of Labor, and it's a little late to lie its way out of this one.
But thanks, Sitrick and Co., for giving it the old college try. Yes, the p.r. firm that pulled R. Kelly off of 14-year-olds, dressed him in suits, and sent him to awards shows has been hired by the WGA union bosses to put out press releases like the one L.A. Observed has linked. So guess who is paying Sitrick's $60,000 retainer? The Guild rank and file, idiot! Yep, the working writer's dues is being spent so the working writer can be fed more lies by its own leadership.
