Chick not going for mayor

Laura Chick disclosed Thursday that she will run for reelection next year rather than go after Mayor Jim Hahn's job. So far she's yet to take back her early endorsement of Hahn for a second term, but she edged closer in telling Rick Orlov of the Daily News:

"When I endorsed him last summer, it was one of those spontaneous things," Chick said. "I'm sorry I wasn't more thoughtful and perhaps it would have been better to wait longer. You can't foretell events in politics. I'm still waiting to see if Mayor Hahn is going to put out a vision and turn on a dime in terms of changing into a strong leader."

With friends like that... But it's not so surprising. Chick endorsed Antonio Villaraigosa over Hahn the last time around, and also signed on early when Villaraigosa later ran for the City Council against an incumbent, Nick Pacheco. If he challenges Hahn a second time, expect to find Chick in his camp. She has also worked closely of late with mayoral hopeful Bernard Parks and has some history with Bob Hertzberg, who may decide to run. So the question is when will Chick officially renege on her endorsement of Hahn -- now or later? LAT story, Daily Breeze story.
