• Victor Merina, senior fellow with USC Annenberg's Institute for Justice and Journalism, will give the Regent's Lecture Friday evening at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. His topic: The Message of the Media, the Power of the Personal.

• Kevin F. Sherry cleans out his closet, becomes an Internet sensation.
• Eric Lynxwiler, technically an "urban anthroplogist" rather than a journalist, speaks on Art and Americana, a Fascination with Neon Signs, at the Getty Center on Nov. 16. He is a former board member of the Museum of Neon Art in downtown Los Angeles, a docent for the Los Angeles Conservancy, and did a big chunk of the research for my upcoming book on Wilshire Boulevard.
