Outdoors columnist comes in

Chris Reynolds, who began writing columns for the Times' new Outdoor section in 2003, is moving to be a senior arts writer. The staff announcement follows:

To: The Staff
From: Lisa Fung, Arts Editor
Bret Israel, Sunday Calendar Editor

We’re pleased to announce that Chris Reynolds will be rejoining the Calendar section next month as senior arts writer.

Many of you are already familiar with the fine writing and remarkable breadth of topics Chris tackled in his previous stint as an arts reporter in Calendar from 2001-03: from the alabaster in the new cathedral to August Wilson's old neighborhood to the growing popularity of cowboy painting and the cost of a seat on the opera board of trustees.

In his new role, Chris will write news and feature stories on the arts and culture scene in Los Angeles, California and the nation, reporting on extraordinary people, trends both major and subtle, and emergent ideas across all of the arts.

Chris joined The Times in 1990. Prior to coming to Calendar, he spent nearly a decade writing for the Travel section. He helped launch the Outdoors section in 2003 as a columnist.

He will report to Arts Editor Lisa Fung.
