Padilla not amused

City Council president Alex Padilla apparently didn't care much for the tactics used yesterday by fellow councilmember Janice Hahn (the mayor's sister) to lobby for a sales tax hike for the LAPD. The Breeze says that at a press conference in San Pedro, she held up a sign with the names and phone numbers of six council members who haven't committed to putting the tax on the May ballot. Hahn urged voters to pester them. Two of those councilmen happen to be running against Mayor Hahn; in any case, Padilla spokesman David Gershwin said of his boss, who endorsed Jim Hahn in 2001 but has taken no position this time: "I don't think he was flattered by that technique."

Also: Mayor Hahn's "Blue Ribbon Commission on Contracting" has recommended an ethics code for city commissioners, more training and removing those who have conflicts of interest. Councilman Villaraigosa called on Hahn to adopt the ethics code. Stories in the Times, Daily Breeze, Daily News.
