Dowie to plead? Nope **

Today's Daily Journal report on Steve Sugerman, the latest ex-Fleishman-Hillard exec to face charges, says that prosecutors expect Doug Dowie to plead guilty when he appears in federal court Monday with fellow indictee John Stodder. The "Legal Briefing" item is from staffer Ryan Oliver. * Not accurate: Dowie's lawyer, Tom Holliday, just called to say the Daily Journal report is wrong. Dowie pleaded not guilty on Monday. Oliver also called to fix the record. The Journal has a "regrets the error" correction in Monday's paper.

** Saturday: Steve Soboroff, head of Playa Vista, tells Copley News Service he stands behind Sugerman: "Steve did the right thing by accepting responsibility...A lot of people make mistakes, and very few of them say, 'I made a mistake and I accept responsibility,' and I respect him for that." Sugerman's PR company represents Soboroff and Playa Vista. Also, law prof Laurie Levenson says the Sugerman plea deal puts the squeeze on Dowie.
