Wednesday = transportation *

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announces his appointees to the MTA board and a deputy mayor for transportation tomorrow at the Patsaouras Plaza near Union Station. First he'll ride the Gold Line in to work.

* 11 p.m. update: Will this be where Bob Hertzberg and Richard Katz join the Villaraigosa team, and where former Riordan adviser Jaime de la Vega makes his return? Not sure, but that's the buzz. Midnight update: The Daily News says the MTA appointees will be Katz and former secession leader David Fleming, who endorsed Villaraigosa this year, plus Councilmember Bernard Parks. The LAT agrees, and also reports de la Vega, who has been an aide to City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo lately. Final update: They were right: Parks, Katz and Fleming to the MTA board, de la Vega as deputy mayor.
