Council president Eric Garcetti released his new committee assignments this afternoon. They follow after the jump. Included are new chairs for the Housing, Community and Economic Development committee (it used to be Garcetti's, now Herb Wesson's) and Information Technology and General Services. Tony Cardenas gets that one after losing his chairmanship of the panel with oversight of the DWP. Cardenas is an ally of former council president Alex Padilla and had briefly flirted with challenging Garcetti for the post himself. In his release, Garcetti says:

I have appointed Tony Cardenas to chair the Information Technology and General Services committee because of his track record of taking on the council's most contentious issues-the LAX Master Plan, the renewable energy portfolio standard, and business tax reform. His background as an engineer, the depth of his legislative experience, and his inborn leadership make him perfect to take on the critical issues of cable refranchising and the tangled web of Los Angeles' real estate.

The DWP is now overseen by Energy and Environment (Jan Perry, chair); Airports and the Port of Los Angeles fall under Trade, Commerce and Tourism (Janice Hahn). Bill Rosendahl moves to chair of Public Works, while former chair Greig Smith moves to Intergovernmental Relations and Padilla takes Rosendahl's place at the head of Education and Neighborhoods. Cardenas also loses his seat on Planning and Land Use Management to newcomer Jose Huizar.

There's also a new ad hoc committee on homelessness that includes Perry as chair, plus Garcetti and Rosendahl. (It actually started under Padilla.)

In the full list that follows, the chair of each committee is listed first:
