CHICK TAPS CERVANTES AS NEW CHIEF

Los Angeles- City Controller Laura Chick has named Rushmore Cervantes
as her new Chief Deputy Controller. Cervantes is currently the General
Manager of El Pueblo, the City Department which runs Olvera Street.

"For the last two years Rushmore Cervantes has done an amazing job as
the General Manager of El Pueblo. He took over the helm of this City
treasure when it was on the brink of financial disaster and has been the
driving force in putting it on the right track. He has had a long and
distinguished career with the City, and brings an abundance of talent,
experience and energy to the Controller's Office," said Chick.

Cervantes will replace DeWitt Roberts who is leaving to resume his
career path at the Los Angeles County Auditor-Controller's Office.

"Rushmore has been a tremendous asset to El Pueblo and the City of Los
Angeles. His stewardship and turn-around of the department with the
responsibility for a place so important to the city's history and its
future is a model of fine management and leadership. His move to the
City Controller's Office is a loss to El Pueblo, but a definite gain for
taxpayers citywide," said Mayor Villaraigosa.

Chick has released over 100 audits since she became City Controller on
July 1, 2001. The audits, including those at the Airport, Water and
Power and Harbor Departments, have spurred County and Federal
investigations.

Chick has worked diligently to save taxpayer dollars, improve city
services, eliminate waste and open the City's books. The complete audit
reports can be accessed on Chick's web site at www.lacity.org/ctr.
