AB 1381 stalled for the moment (* update)

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's school bill got to 30 ayes in the Assembly before the voting was suspended about 5:20 pm. His side expects to get over the top before the night is done, once members come back from dinner and committee sessions. "This happens quite often. My expectation is we will get 41 votes," the mayor just told Channel 4's Kim Baldonado. A press conference is already being planned in Los Angeles for the morning. Also: Earlier in the day, Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg confirmed she is a candidate for LAUSD superintendent and recused herself from the Assembly Education Committee vote. The bill passed in committee 7-2.

* Passed: 42-20 vote.

LA Observed exclusive: With the school bill almost in the can, Villaraigosa's staff is pulling together the long-delayed trade mission to Asia for October.
