Senate passes Antonio's bill

The vote was 23-14. AB 1381, aka the Gloria Romero Educational Reform Act of 2006, now goes to the Assembly for a thumbs up in the education committee and a floor vote before they turn out the lights on the session on Thursday. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he will sign the bill. In the Senate today, Democrats Dean Florez and Jackie Speier voted against, while two Democrats abstained. Republicans Roy Ashburn and George Runner came over to the Democratic leadership's side and were needed to get the bill out. LAT, DN, Around the Capitol
